Welcome to the International Abalone Society websiteThe International Abalone Society (IAS) is an international forum, intended to promote research on abalone; facilitate the distribution of information on abalone; promote cooperation between abalone researchers and members of the abalone industry; and to recognize the achievements of individuals and organizations by the award of IAS International awards. To achieve these objectives, the IAS distributes information thorugh electronic newsletters and this website, and also organizes international symposia, held at roughtly three-yearly intervals. Previous International Abalone Symposia were held in Mexico (1989), Australia (1994), U.S.A. (1997), South Africa (2000), China (2003), Chile (2006) and Thailand (2009). Publications resulting from some of these symposia can be found by following links to publications. The 2006 International Abalone Symposium was held in Chile in February 2006. Papers from that symposium were published in Vol. 26 (No 3) of the Journal of Shellfish Research. Click onto the "publications" link above to see PDF copies of those papers.
