If you are an abalone "enthusiast" and wish to join the ABNET mailing list, the information below will help you to do so.

ABOUT ABNET

As a result of deliberations at the 2nd International Abalone Symposium, it was decided to start an electronic service for all people (aquaculturists, academics, managers, fisheries authorities, students and hobbyists) to discuss, present or ask about any issues relating to abalone. ABNET is an international network for the exchange of information on abalone biology and research.

AIMS AND SCOPE:

It is hoped that the list-server will become a useful tool for all abalone workers to access information and test ideas quickly and efficiently as well as being a means of meeting others that are working on similar projects. It is hoped that the list-server will become a forum for lively discussion in an informal and friendly style. Most of the material posted will be automatically distributed to all list members, but messages that are suspected to be “SPAM”  or do not conform to listserver rules, will be filtered out by the list administrator. ABNET is a “hidden” list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator, and cannot be accessed by other list members.

Non-members will not be allowed to post messages on the list.

The topics can cover all aspects of

  • Culture
  • Management
  • Techniques
  • Literature (current and bibliographies)
  • Reviews of written material
  • Legislation
  • Project proposals
  • Theses and unpublished data
  • Employment and study opportunities
  • Conference and related announcements
  • Queries about any of the above
  • Shared experiences and anecdotes
  • Recipes
  • Any other abalone related issues
